The Important Book

When I taught my 5th graders to write poetry, I would use this little picture book as a model. Each page had a simple subject, like a spoon, and would describe the different attributes of it beginning and ending the page with "the important thing about ___ is____."
So in that same style I would like to present:

"The Important Thing about Living in Sun City Center"

The important thing
about living in Sun City Center is
that I feel like a young kid.
My friends talk about music from the 40's and then say to me,
"but you are too young to know that."
They talk about illnesses, hospitalizations, and medications
and when I cannot contribute, they say,
"Just wait until you are old."
My SCC friends are impressed
when they hear I attend Zumba class
because "It is so fast!"
Most of the ladies in the community pool
have bodies like mine.
I have a choice of two water aerobics classes,
6 days a week
or I can  just walk in circles
in the heated indoor pool.
I can drive around the community in an open air golf cart,
getting parking spots reserved for golf carts only.
I can shop the grocery stores in SCC after sundown
and there are no lines at the checkout.
I can play BINGO on Monday nights
for as little as $1
and win $200.
I can see ospreys in a nest,
or a red fox,
sand hill cranes,
cattle egrets,
and ibises in my yard.
I can ride  my bike for an hour
on neighborhood streets
and not worry about sharing the road.
But the important thing
about living in Sun City Center is
that I feel like a young kid.
